Profile

My research has examined war and religion during the critical final decades of Japan's sixteenth century, when the country was transforming from a medieval state into an early-modern nation, and Jesuit missionaries first arrived in Asia. My current research is focused on nostalgia and the 14th-century text Tsurezuregusa (Essays in Idleness).
